1. An Albertan Citadel?
The Scoop🕵️♂️: Alberta, one of Canada’s 13 provinces, is the country’s economic engine primarily due to its oil and gas industry. Canada has a system of ‘transfer/equalisation payments’ whereby its federal government tries to balance out the relative economic strength and weakness of the various provinces by topping up the funds of one province with money from another. On its surface this seems like a reasonable system, however the province of Alberta finds itself subsidising much of the country, while the federal government is at the same time trying to restrict its economic productivity via various ‘net-zero’ policies.
Albertan’s are generally frustrated by the incessant attempts at hobbling their economy and what they see as an over reliance on their citizens productivity by other less productive regions of the country. This has led to a strong desire from many Albertans to secede from the Canadian federal union.
This sentiment has only increased after the recent election of the nominally liberal party, led by the former governor of the banks of both Canada and the UK. Mark Carney is a card carrying globalist with a poor economic track record in the UK, as well as being a passionate adherent of climate change ideology. In summary, his values and policies could not be more anti-Albertan if you tried.
Why You Should Care🚨: The desire for smaller and more decentralised government is particularly strong amongst bitcoiners. With the political landscape in Canada accelerating the separatist sentiment in Alberta, and the province has become very appealing to self-sovereign, freedom loving humans looking for a jurisdiction with a strong culture of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency and a greater respect for human rights.
What does this mean for bitcoin?✨: Discussions at this year’s Bitcoin Rodeo were very much focused on what separation might look like from a political and monetary standpoint, and there was also a distinct air of excitement as to the opportunities that secession might present to the strongly independent and entrepreneurial Albertan citizenry. If you are looking for a jurisdiction that aligns with your values, this might be a good time to check Alberta out.

2. A Big Beautiful Bill, or a Porky Pig Party?
The Scoop🕵️♂️: ICYMI the U.S. administration has been going back and forth with an omnibus bill, dubbed “The Big Beautiful Bill” by their current President, Donald Trump. The bill raises the debt ceiling to 5 trillion dollars, leading entrepreneur Elon Musk to dub Washington “The Porky Pig Party”.
Why You Should Care🚨: In a recent development it has been proposed to amend the bill to remove/reduce capital gains tax on bitcoin payments and double taxation on bitcoin miners.
What does this mean for bitcoin?✨: Legislators realise that their electoral future depends on bitcoiners. Both the proposed amendments would benefit bitcoiners, even if the bill as a whole is a uniparty pork fest.

💼 Women in Bitcoin
This year’s Rodeo featured a women’s brunch hosted by Heather and Katie. The event brought a considerable number of additional women to the conference, many with their little ones in toe. It was a delightful event with where women had the space to make connections and chat about some of the spiritual and health aspects adjacent to bitcoin.
About the hosts:
Heather is a trained hypnotherapist, Bitcoiner and host of the “UnHypnotized Podcast”. You can catch our interview with Heather last year HERE.
Katie is the founder of “The Living Well”, an educational coaching resource designed to help deepen understanding of ‘the spiritual physics’ at the heart of the human experience. Curious? Check out our conversation with Katie HERE.
