Most people have heard of Bitcoin but few use it or grasp its broader impact; while a tiny minority are in possession of it, many dismiss it as a scam, creating a stark divide that raises the question of what will happen when Bitcoin moves from the fringe to the mainstream. If weak national currencies collapse under debt and mismanagement, people will first flee to stable fiat currencies and eventually turn to a neutral, digital, non‑state money like Bitcoin – as a store of value, then a medium of exchange, and finally a unit of account.
Such a shift would disrupt industries reliant on inflation and opaque finance, push governments toward more transparent taxation, and enable individuals and communities to save, coordinate, and trade globally without depending on fragile institutions, allowing both rural and urban lifestyles to thrive within a shared, harder form of money.
